I'm originally from Virginia and I heard about that situation where LE would actually have sex and then bust the girls. It stirred up a hornet's nest of controversy, very bad press for the police department in question, hearings at the county board of supervisors, and some very interesting testimony at trial. IIRC, the trial judge initially ruled the police tactics to be legal under Virginia law, and that resulted in even more bad press. I think (but I'm not certain) that the appellate court reversed that ruling and said that Virginia cops could NOT break the law in order to enforce it. I do recall that the department ceased doing that. Whether they chose to because of the bad publicity or were ordered to by the court, I'm not sure.
As for HPD, as you said, they generally play it straight. As much as we dislike their vice operations, they're actually pretty laid-back compared to some departments on the mainland. Most of the time, when they launch a crack-down it's in response to pressure from politicians and organized neighborhood groups. I direct most of my irritation at the legislature and the city prosecutor's office, rather than at HPD. Of course, I'm a bit biased since I have several friends who are, or were cops. I tend to see things from their perspective. Anyway, enough of my rambling...

The laws about massage are available on the Hawaii State Legislature website. Might want to take a look at section 452-2 of Hawaii Revised Statutes, which says that a "massage therapist apprentice who has a permit ... is also permitted to engage in or attempt to engage in the occupation or practice of massage." However, section 452-1 of Hawaii Revised Statutes says that a "massage therapist apprentice" is a person "who engages in the occupation or practice of massage under the direct supervision of a sponsoring massage therapist ...." So it would seem that what is sufficient as "direct supervision" could be an issue.

Direct supervision certainly can be an issue. However, a smart attorney could do a spin on that one. One angle could be, that the supervisor has so many in training that she cannot do a "hands on" on all of them. Now comes a new term "hands on" which is not in the books.

But I do have to thank Talon X for writing this. A lot of you guy forget that We are human being First before we are provider/services workers or whatever title you want to give us at the moment. I know some of you guys think, well this isn't what I paying You for! (To those guys, well. Well. That's another post) but on a serious note, you guys forget that before you walk thru our doors we had others situations come upon us. I know it's a business, but you also have to remember it's a business and in normal society circles is very much frown upon (sad isn’t it? ). So it's all about being comfortable! I’m not saying that the other Gentleman (Wn5912) did or didn't do anything that would put her on guard, as I stated earlier I don’t know this lady but from what TalonX wrote, sometime previous situations dictates what happens. AMP they don’t have as much of a buffer, they pretty much have to see everyone. LE is very much in full force right now so a lot of providers are on guard.
