Also new to the industry (or sort of new) is Outcall.net that providers can place ads for free. But why don't we get our ads out on these and make big again. We can post ads on Craigslist to re-route these guys that are not aware. I don't know, very open for other options if anyone has any. Its getting bad on us "older" providers that are doing the right thing.

Lastly, I heartily concur with CK's post to the providers. As I said earlier, the one good thing that has come out of all this is that we have more providers participating in the forums, which is certainly a benefit to all of us. This business is tough enough without having to deal with some moron with an internet account making it all the more difficult. Please keep sharing information with one another and hopefully this will all be brought to and end soon.

Ok so I know I have dated enough computer junkies here in Memphis that there should be someone with answers to this flagging. How am I flagged everytime I mean everytime for over TWO months. Most times within minutes (tryed your edit SL but sad to say I am the prime target so they stay on me until mine is gone!
And then theirs wont come down and they have 4 and 5 ads up. This is not adding up to me!

It appears obvious that the growth of CL advertising has directly affected the escort service business. That's too bad for them. The independents provide better service and for the most part are better quality. Why else would the services try to post phony ads pretending to be independents?

Great point Alissa. I've written in the past about the services that have used the ol' "bait and switch" (which seems to be the case with regard to Rhea, at least), and the infamous "al a carte upsell". Not that an independent can't do the same, but they get quickly exposed for those practices on CL or a board like this.

The time for escort services may be coming to an end because of such things as CL, and good riddence. I guess a poor slob like this Brian is just trying to keep a dying breed from vanishing, but I think the cards are stacked against him in the long run.

As far as how he's putting you women's ads down immediately is that he's using spam specific software, which automatically takes the unique URL of the ad that you posted and uses different IP addresses and various proxy servers to effectively have your ad down in 20 minutes tops, all from one location by mimicking several computers flagging the same ad. I know I'm getting a little bit technical in here with the computer speak, but the answer is to look into this software and if it's cost effective to turn the tables on him by doing the same.

I'll search and see if there is a solution to this problem with a counter for this software, but I'm sure he's paid someone or he does it in shifts with someone to sit at the computer and wait for ads to come up, then uses the software to drive every lady in Memphis crazy with this practice that he seees as a threat to his business. It really is as simple as pointing and clicking the URL's for each new ad that he recognizes as a threat into this software, no repetitive flagging needed.

The best solution that I see for you ladies is to invest in software to auto post your ads constantly, which will neutralize the attacks because it takes about 20 minutes for the software to get an ad down. The problem is that this software generally coss about $100, but I don't know how easy they are to use for people or which one is best to use. However, I'd expect a software platform aimed at such a commercial market as Craig's List to be user friendly, and a lot of the programs that I briefly glanced at had trial periods for using them.

As far as the counter attack, I'll continue to look for software similar to what he's using, which makes flagging a one click process, so that his ads begin getting the same scrutiny. From how the ads look, I'm pretty sure he's using a combination of software that specifically searches ads and makes them up using the old pictures, text styles, etc.automatically.

Really, he's using these different ad creator and flagging technology programs to bring the CL escort business to a halt.

Underhanded tactics plague Craigslist free ad posters

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Doug Kelley was perplexed when Craigslist ads for his Sacramento carpet-cleaning business started disappearing from the popular Web site. Every time he reposted one of his classified ads, it would vanish - often within minutes.

After competitors’ ads started showing up, some of them openly denigrating his company, West Coast Carpet Care, Kelley knew he had a problem.

Since then, Kelley estimates he has spent $11,000 in attorney’s and court fees fighting his online business adversaries.

"You’d think" Craigslist "would want to get rid of the tweakers and keep good-quality, licensed businesspeople who are productive members of society," he said.

Like other small businesses worldwide using the free classified Web site, Kelley stumbled last year onto a little-known dark side of Craigslist. Some critics say it’s a situation where anything goes, including slanderous attacks and competitors ejecting each other’s ads in a process called "flagging."

Using conventional software to circumvent Craigslist rules, some individuals have figured out how to quash competition by removing ads of their rivals, whether they’re housecleaning services or real estate sellers.

Craigslist uses an automatic tool that yanks offensive or false ads if enough different users flag them. The problem: Single users can cheat with software that makes the flagging appear to be from multiple users.

It’s a different form of Internet advertising sabotage - similar to "click fraud," where individuals repeatedly click on a rival’s paid Web advertisement on Google or other search engines to run up their rivals’ costs.

They’re also slamming each other with accusations of false advertising, bad business practices and even criminal activity.

"They’re cyber-trashing each other, whether bumping each other’s ads off or defaming each other’s products," said Parry Aftab, executive director of WiredSafety, a volunteer network dedicated to Internet security issues.

She said it’s much more likely to occur on a more freewheeling site such as Craigslist.

"They can’t do that if they’re trying to buy an ad in your paper. They can’t do it on eBay because ... you’ll get in a lot of trouble with eBay. There is less moderating and less oversight of what users are doing on Craigslist."

In an e-mail, Craigslist’s chief executive officer, Jim Buckmaster, said, "We are continually updating our systems to combat ‘black hat’ software of every kind."

He also said "remedial measures, including account suspension, are routinely taken against those violating site guidelines."

That’s of little comfort to Kelley and other business owners who rely on the free advertising offered by Craigslist. They say they’ve spent hours fighting the flagging practice.

Last May, after tracing the person he believed was killing his ads, Kelley filed a lawsuit in Sacramento Superior Court against James Smith, owner of Mother Nature’s Clean Green housecleaning service.

Smith could not be reached for comment. The cell phone number listed with the county licensing division is out of service, and his business address is an apartment where no one answered the door last week.

Kelley said he filed the lawsuit after Craigslist officials would not respond to his repeated complaints about unfair flagging. He sued for libel, defamation and unfair competition, his attorney said. "We subpoenaed Craigslist last October," said David Barrett, Kelley’s Sacramento attorney. "We gave them specific ads that were flagged and this guy’s posts and wanted his IP," or Internet address. "We wanted to make the connection. … They never responded."

A Craigslist official said in an e-mail the company can’t comment on a pending lawsuit.

When Smith failed to appear, Kelley won a default. A trial is set for June, but he is unsure whether he’ll pursue the case.

Kevin Koutney, also of Sacramento, runs a used vending machine business and had a similar experience. When he tried expanding to Reno and Las Vegas, he encountered opposition from a competitor who he said repeatedly flagged his Craigslist ads.

Koutney said he recently spent 15 hours over a weekend reposting his ads.

"I don’t want him to drive me out of business," Koutney said. "I’ve probably reposted over 400 ads."

Marianne Kim, a Coldwell Banker real estate agent in Roseville, Calif., says she too was a victim. "My ads would be flagged immediately," she said. "We tried to locate the person who was doing it but haven’t figured it out. Once I took my name off my ad, it would go through. It was so irritating."

Like Kelley and Koutney, Kim said she complained to Craigslist but got nowhere. "I e-mailed Craigslist several times asking how to get them to stop. I got no response at all," she said.

With 30 million new classified ads posted monthly, Craigslist is bound to get a few complaints. CEO Buckmaster said his firm always responds quickly. "All abuse reports made through our ‘abusecraigslist.org’ channel are handled by humans, typically within minutes or hours," he said in an e-mail.

Asked whether the 25-person company, which operates from a San Francisco house, has sufficient staffing to deal with complaints, spokeswoman Susan MacTavish Best said, "We definitely do."

Others disagree.

"Craigslist," said attorney Barrett, "is the freakin’ Wild West."

The capcha verification is integrated into the software. There is also a more expensive deluxe version that allows you to skip the capcha verification, but I wouldn't think that putting in that verifier is a big deal as the pain is having to continually do the ads over again. with this, the ladies can post and edit ads again in a few minutes. I think it also has an auto e-mail generator so you don't have to worry about that either and can just post similar ads from several different e-mail addresses. Like I said, they should try it because it's what a lot of mainstream business people use to combat this flaggingproblem.

Believe me, this is something this guy is using in conjunction with the auto-flagging software, which is why ads come down quickly, and then he puts up so many bogus ones on top of those ads all at once.

A possible solution to circumvent the Memphis flagging issue would be to post in the North Mississippi CL. Brandi/Tamara and Angel have been doing this for some time. North Mississippi is a rather broad area, so the provider typically names the areas they service in the body of the post. I would also recommend that the ladies fill in "Memphis" as the location, so it appears in the title of the post.

If the ladies reading the board would be graciuos enough to try this and to pass it along to other reputable providers, this may prove to be the quickest and easiest solution to us getting some seriously needed "REM" sleep and once again line their pockets.

As best as I can tell, he is using either EasyAd Remover, which uses the IP address and can quikly flag an ad. There is a video on how it works, at ezadsuite.com/media/remover/quickstart.htm. To change your IP address, turn off your modem for a couple of minutes, then turn it back on, that is, if you are on DSL or dialup. If its not EasyAd Remover that he is using, it might be a script that is written for the browser Firefox or Opera. Yes, I saw that video as well. I couldn't find where this software is available though. It's exactly the software and tactic he's using because this practice seems to be widespread across CL, not just in the escorting business.

Hopefully, these arrests prove to be our flagger, and we won't have to worry about it for a while.




Long time voyeur, first time poster. As best as I can tell, he is using either EasyAd Remover, which uses the IP address and can quikly flag an ad. There is a video on how it works, at ezadsuite.com/media/remover/quickstart.htm. To change your IP address, turn off your modem for a couple of minutes, then turn it back on, that is, if you are on DSL or dialup. If its not EasyAd Remover that he is using, it might be a script that is written for the browser Firefox or Opera. I don't know Brian but this is a major flagger. He took pictures of street walkers and posted ads for them. Lots of drugs, robberies etc. Most of the girls know him as David Gardner rather then Henry Gardner.

I had my 1st encounter with Justine today. She's a very sweet girl! I wouldn't hesitate to take her out anywhere. She stays at a very nice location. Clean and safe. I had the strangest dream earlier this week. What made this dream so strange for me was how overly cautious I was almost to the point of paranoia. I dreamed that I had an encounter with a provider named Raven, #214-8302. I had to admit, against my better judgement I set up an appointment. Because of lower than normal rates, I kinda thought that I was being set-up by LE or others, but being me, I had to go. Well mongers let me tell you, there is a reason that some people advertise well below the going rate, and this particular dream verified what I suspected, a common SW masquerading as an escort. I have no problem with anyone trying to better themselves, we all would if given the chance, but my problem is when you advertise on CL as an escort offering services and you raise your rates from what you charge on the streets, your mentally should change. I expect a SW to rush, watch clocks and everything else that comes with that experience, but I do no expect escorts to do the same thing. Let me begin with a dream with no BJ, bb or c, pants removed but not top, and the emotions of a blow up doll. I do not expect escorts to just lay there, the only way that you know that they are alive is when you go deep, hands go on your stomach to try to stop you. I have dealt with providers that double dip, but not once have any of them treated me in my dreams like this. My recomendation, stay away unless you are offering street rates.
